US Congressman on Six-day Visit to Cape Verde

US Congressman Frank Barney Thursday began a six-day visit to Cape Verde expected to highlight the plight of Cape Verdean youths deported from North America, an official said here.

Cape Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities Fatima Veiga and Communities Institute chairman Alvaro Apolo are due to meet with the US lawmaker to introduce him to the task force on deportees recently set up by the government.

US ambassador to Praia Donald Johnson is due to attend the
meeting, the official said.

Another batch of Cape Verdean deported from the US for alleged anti-social acts is expected in the country shortly.

The 19th Edition of Baia das Gatas

The 19th edition of the festival of Baia das Gata in Cape Verde took place from the 15 to 17 of August on the island of Sao Vicente, sung many times by Césaria Evora, native of this island located at the beautiful medium of the Atlantic. Ismaël Lô, known as Iso, Mahotella Queens and the Capeverdean rapper Izé were the heads of poster of this African Woodstock.

Luandas Governor And Cape-Verdes Ambassador Analyse Cooperation

The ambassador of Cape-Verde to Angola, Silvino da Luz, had a meeting on Tuesday with the Governor of Luanda, Simão Paulo, in which it was discussed the possibility of strengthening the friendship ties and bilateral relations on cooperation.

At the end of the audience, Silvino da Luz said to the Press that he spoke to Governor of Luanda about a possible "Twinning" between the cities of Praia (Cape-Verd) and Luanda, which he hopes may happen soon.

The 19th edition of Baia Das Gatas Music Festival, which is scheduled for 15, 16, and 17 of August on the Island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, will pay a special tribute to the high-status author/composer Manuel d’Novas. A group of national singers and musicians including Bau, Herminia and Dulce Matias, Solange, Djoia, and d’Novas himself, will have the opportunity to retrace the songwriter outstanding musical career.
