| The government of Cape Verde may sign a number of investment accords with the United States, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs José Brito, who spoke following a brief meeting with US Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns yesterday on the island of Sal.
The investment accords were one of the issues discussed during the short meeting, in which the second Millennium Challenge Account compact, bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of security in the fight against drug trafficking in West Africa were also on the table. Burns expressed satisfaction with his visit to Cape Verde, and affirmed that he was proud of Cape Verde’s performance in the implementation of the first Millennium Challenge Account compact. Cape Verde “has all of the conditions to be given the second compact,” he said. Speaking of drug trafficking, Burns recommended more work aimed at guaranteeing “the region’s prosperity. Brito, for his part, spoke of bilateral cooperation, and affirmed that a number of investment accords could come to be signed. “We also discussed the matter of security and the need for maritime reinforcement to help Cape Verde in the fight against drug trafficking,” concluded José Brito. |
