The Third Cape Verde–Spain Mixed Commission concluded with a cooperation accord for the next three years. The accord’s actions will be centered in education, food safety and the conservation of Cape Verde’s cultural patrimony. The discussions that took place during the meeting in Madrid that brought together diplomatic officials from the two countries resulted in Spain’s deciding to maintain Cape Verde as a priority nation in terms of cooperative programs. The document that came out of the discussions and which was signed by Spain’s State International Cooperation Secretary, Leire Pajín, and Cape Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Victor Borges, will establish new commitments in terms of education, food aid and the conservation of historic patrimony.
 ,
In addition to indicating the target sectors of cooperation, the Spanish government’s commitment also includes encouraging the participation of the European county’s autonomous regions in the development of Cape Verde, particularly the Autonomous Community of the Canaries, due to its proximity to Cape Verde.
 ,
Cape Verde is the fifth country in the region to receive Spanish aid, which totals more than 4.5 million euros per year. Within this framework, the government of the Canary Islands is one of the main actors in terms of cooperation with Praia. This cooperation has made possible projects such as the Cidade Velha Development Plan and the rehabilitation of the site’s cultural patrimony.
