The president of the Cape Verdean Investment Promotion Agency, known by the acronym CI, left today, March 11, for Macau and Hong Kong, where he will establish business contacts on various levels. Paulo Monteiro is also expected to participate in a preparatory meeting for the Forum for Economic and Commercial Cooperation between China and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries slated to occur at the end of the month. This second meeting of the permanent secretariat of the forum will take place on March 15 and 16 in Macau. The forum is slated to take place on March 28, 29 and 30 in Angola and is seen as a major opportunity for cooperation between the world’s officially Portuguese-speaking countries and the People’s Republic of China.

While in the former Portuguese colony in southern China, Monteiro will also meet with a group of Chinese business entrepreneurs intending to invest in Santa Maria islet in Praia’s harbor, namely in the construction of a major tourist and casino enterprise. The businessmen plan to come to Cape Verde before this summer for contacts with Cape Verdean authorities.

Monteiro has also scheduled a work visit to the Hong Kong special administrative region, where he plans to meet with local authorities and seek out potential partners in the Cape Verdean government’s bid to turn the archipelago into an international financial hub. Monteiro is set to return to Cape Verde on March 16.
