On Thursday, March 31, President Pedro Pires signed a presidential decree naming career diplomat Júlio Morais Cape Verde’s ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. It is not yet known who will substitute Morais as the general director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Júliuo Morais will also be responsible for diplomatic relations with Japan and occasionally Singapore, and will be charged with intensifying economic relations with China, which he recently visited as part of the delegation that accompanied Prime Minister José Maria Neves on his official visit to Beijing.
 ,
During the Prime Minister’s visit, it was decided that China would build Cape Verde’s new National Stadium in the Mointe Vaca district of the island of Santiago, as well as two new buildings for Praia’s Agostinho Neto Hospital – a maternity ward and a general clinic structure.
 ,
In addition to a new general director, the International Cooperation department will soon have another new face as well. Alcides Barros has been named as the new director of Business and Decentralized Cooperation, a new department recently introduced in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
