The unions affiliated with union confederation UNTC-CS have notified all Cape Verdean companies regarding negotiations for the wage increases for 2008 - salary increases for public administration employees have been set at 2.5% by the Social Coordination Council.

The adjunct secretary general of Cape Verdes largest union confederation says that all of the labor unions in the business sector have notified companies of the beginning of conversations aimed at determining wage increases for 2008.

Júlio Varela says that, in addition to the 2.5% set by the Social Coordination Council, negotiations will also discuss the integration of the 2006 and 2007 inflation rate into wage raises.

The UNCT-CS will propose a wage increase of approximately 5% in order to help reestablish workers purchasing power.
