Yet another sign that the opening of Boa Vista’s international airport is having an influence on tourist agencies, even in the midst of the financial crisis, is the fact that Portuguese travel agency Soltrópico saw its revenues jump 56.5% in the first half of 2009 thanks to the sale of tourist packages to the island, which shot up 75.6%.

According to Presstur, the company’s gross margin grew 18.7% in relation to the first six months of last year.

Soltrópico affirms that the initiation of its direct charter flights between Lisbon and Boa Vista in November of last year, which doubled the weekly supply of charter flights to Cape Verde, contributed to the increase in its sale of packages to the country. “The positive demand on the market gave us very satisfactory occupancy rates on the 165 seats on the Airbus A320s that carry out the flight, without causing any losses to the charter flights to the island of Sal,” according to the company.
