Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau sign business partnership accords
Thursday, 17 December 2009 19:27    PDF Print E-mail

The Chambers of Commerce of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau have signed accords for business partnerships between business owners from the two countries. Agriculture, construction and services are the areas identified for potential partnerships between business owners from the two countries, whose respective governments are expected to help create the conditions to put the accords into action.

In the opinion of Cape Verde’s state Secretary of the Economy, Humberto Brito, this partnership between business owners will help bring business relations to the same level as political and diplomatic relations between Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau. Brito affirmed that it was in the interest of both governments to help their respective businesses move from intentions to actions, and stressed the existence of frequent flights between the two countries’ capital cities as a positive factor.

Now, according to Brito, it will also be necessary to investigate the possibility of opening up a shipping line between Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau to transport products that cannot be shipped by air and make business partnerships more profitable. Along these same lines, officials from the respective Chambers of Commerce stated that a shipping line between the two countries was “essential.”

Brito headed a delegation of business owners to Guinea Bissau to participate in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Business Week, which took place in Bissau between December 7 and 14.
